Be Eco-Friendly: Go Garden Green! There are many ways to create a green landscape- and it's becoming more and more important to consider making your home or office a Greenscape area. If you are contemplating Going Green, here are some things to consider:
- Selecting native plants will greatly enhance the landscape. Since they are the natural flora of the area they will thrive the best and provide the best habitat for the natural fauna. Keep in mind, Going Green is designed to help out the eco-system, and that includes the flora and the fauna (even those pesky deer).
- Trees excel at reducing your energy bill. Planting trees near enough to your home to provide shade in the summer will reduce your energy bill. By planting deciduous trees, you help cool your house in the summer and warm your house in the winter when the leaves are gone and sunlight can filter through the branches.
- Consider planting more gardens to reduce lawn space- not only will this help reduce lawn maintenance, but gardens can provide cozy homes for great garden insects and small animals that are important to the eco-system.
- Collect water through rain barrels and use gray water to water your plants.
- Mulch! Mulch reduces moisture evaporation, watering, weeds, helps maintain soil temperature, and adds important nutrients to the soil. Plus, it looks nice!
